To celebrate InterContinental Hotel & Resorts’ hallmark seventieth birthday, we had the pleasure of travelling to their stunning, former State Guest House hotel in China’s most populous city. The InterContinental Shanghai Ruijin is a private oasis built within a pristine garden that has you living amongst the beautiful, tree-lined streets of the city’s quaint French Concession. Our stay here was nothing but wonderful – personalised concierge assistance, evening swims in the grand indoor pool & that undeniable palatial feel of an estate steeped in history. Outside the mansion’s walls, Shanghai is a cultural collision of oriental meets western, standing tall as a gigantic metropolis of modern skylines alongside heritage decor. Aside from having the best pan-fried dumplings I have ever tasted, the city’s shopping strips are never-ending (yay!) & it is one of those places that you can walk endlessly for hours. In my opinion, an absolutely fascinating urban jungle & a definite must-visit… x
